Buy and Rent Back: An innovative model for mobile devices

Nowadays, it is hard to imagine everyday working life without smartphones. Companies are faced with the challenge of staying up to date with the latest technology and investing in mobile device fleets. This usually involves very high costs for individual companies. So what happens to existing fleets and how can investment costs be reduced? This is where an interesting business model comes into play: Buy and Rent Back (BaRB). This model offers companies new opportunities for their existing device fleets.

But what is buy and rent back?

Buy and Rent Back is a model that allows companies to transfer their devices to the Device-as-a-Service model without losing them. To do this, TKD purchases the end devices and leases them back to the company for a low monthly rental fee. This enables companies to free up capital at short notice without losing direct access to their existing mobile device fleet.

How does Buy and Rent Back work for mobile devices?

The buy and rent back model at TKD can be broken down into several phases:

  1. Inventory analysis
The first step is to conduct an inventory analysis of the mobile device fleet. In this phase, we work with the customer to determine the number of devices and which contracts are currently in place. This analysis forms the basis for an immediate quote.

For customers, this means that they receive a precise assessment of the value of their fleet.

  2. Personalized offer for device purchase

After the inventory analysis, customers immediately receive a personalized offer for the purchase of their mobile devices. This offer includes not only the value of the mobile devices, but also the monthly rental price, including our LifeCycle Management Service.

A key advantage here is immediate availability: customers usually receive payment for their device fleet straight away, giving them immediate liquidity without having to wait for long periods of time.

  3. Rental period and upgrade options
At the start of the rental period, the mobile devices are transferred to the Device-as-a-Service model. A small monthly rental fee is charged for use, which also includes our LifeCycle Management Service. This allows customers to continue using their existing devices without any effort.

An additional advantage during the rental phase is the upgrade option. Customers can switch to newer smartphone models after a few months. This option allows mixed fleets to be aligned in terms of models and terms and standardized in a short period of time.

  4. At the end of the term
At the end of the (usually three-year) rental period, customers have several options tailored to their needs:

  • Extend the rental: Customers extend the term of the rental agreement and continue to keep the existing devices.
  • New rental offer (with upgrade option): TKD creates a customized offer for new alternatives and advises on further options. Customers thus receive the latest smartphones, while the old devices are returned to TKD and transferred to a second life cycle.

This flexibility at the end of the contract makes the buy and rent back model very attractive for companies. They retain some control over the use of their devices and thus have various options for continuing to use their mobile technology or replacing it with newer models.

The advantages of the buy and rent back model

For companies whose employees use mobile devices, the buy and rent back model offers a number of advantages:

  • Immediate liquidity: Companies receive immediate financial resources by selling the devices.
  • Flexibility of use: Companies can continue to use the devices, receive comprehensive service for their mobile devices, and pay a manageable monthly rental fee.
  • Technical up-to-dateness: Upgrade options allow companies to stay up to date with the latest technology without having to constantly invest in new devices.
  • Sustainability: By returning the old devices at the end of the rental period, they can be refurbished by TKD and given a second lifecycle.

A flexible model for the mobile future

The Buy and Rent Back model offers an innovative, sustainable solution for managing mobile devices. It enables companies to have constant access to their devices while responding flexibly to new technological developments. The combination of immediate sale, flexible rental use, and upgrade options extends and optimizes the entire life cycle of a mobile device.
